Adult Congential Heart Disease
The Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) or Grown Up Congenital Heart Disease (GUCH) service in Brighton has a strong links with the ACHD centre at Guy's St Thomas' NHS Trust, in London. This "hub & spoke" structure, as laid out in the NHS GUCH Guide 2006, between Brighton and London operates through a close working association between Consultant Cardiologist Dr Rachael James with an interest in ACHD, and Drs Cathy Head and Christoph Kieswetter, Consultant Cardiologists in ACHD at Guy's St Thomas'.
A Transition Service is run at the Royal Alex Hospital, Brighton by Dr Owen Miller, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, Evelina Children's hospital, Guys' St Thomas' and Dr Rachael James. This service aims to ensure a co-ordinated and seamless transition of teenagers as they move from the paediatric service to adult care.
