Brighton Take Heart Group

The Brighton Take Heart Group is a patient led cardiac support group which was set up in 1993. The group was established in order to provide ongoing support and exercise to cardiac patients who have completed the cardiac rehabilitation programme run at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
It is run by a committee of volunteers, the current committee includes former cardiac patients, relatives of heart patients, exercise instructors and a cardiac rehabilitation nurse. Our current President is Consultant Cardiologist Dr Adam de Belder.
The Take Heart group employs two British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation (BACR) phase 4 instructors and they provide exercise classes in Brighton, Hove, Peacehaven, Lewes and Portslade. The group also supports the provision of a Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse on a weekly basis at the Stanley Deason session for health advice, pulse & blood pressurechecks.

 

What else does the group offer?
We also offer the opportunity to attend social events. We have regular quiz nights and an annual sponsored swim. Our social organiser arranges a varied programme of coach trips throughout the year.
Relatives of cardiac patients are also able to become members of the group and attend the exercise classes.
The £5 membership fee includes a quarterly magazine containing articles written by the staff in The Sussex Cardiac Centre as well as news on the group.

How do I become a member?
On completion of the Cardiac Rehabilitation course at the hospital you will be given details of joining the group. If you have not been through the programme or attended in the past you can ask your GP to refer you.
As well as the annual membership fee there is a charge for each exercise class.
