of Cardiac Catheter Laboratories, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. Director
of Clinical Audit. Trained in London, and appointed as Consultant Cardiologist,
Brighton in 1999. Trained in all aspects of adult cardiac disease with a specialist
interest in coronary angioplasty and rotablation. Performs approx. 300 procedures/year. Member
of British Cardiovascular Interventional Society UK Council. Member of NICE
Interventional guideline committee. Primary Investigator of numerous clinical
trials occurring at the Sussex cardiac Centre.

Dr David Hildick-Smith MD MRCP Director

Dr Rachael James MD, BSc,
MRCP
Trained in London and appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in Brighton 2004.
Lead Consultant for echocardiography (British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) accredited for transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography).
Special interests are adult congenital heart disease and heart disease in pregnancy.
BSE Council Member and Member of the BSE Accreditation and Departmental Accreditation committees.

Trained in medicine and cardiology at King’s
College Hospital, London. Appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Sussex
County Hospital 1979. Special interests in cardiology:
pre-hospital and hospital
care of heart attacks; resuscitation; all forms of coronary disease; non-invasive
tests and treatments. Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. Founding
Member of the Resuscitation Council (UK). Member of the European Resuscitation
Council. Founding Chair of Trustees of the UK Council of Professionals as Resuscitation
Officers. Founding Head of the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Associate
Dean of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. British Heart Foundation Lecturer. Author
of 6 books, 17 book chapters and over 100 scientific papers on cardiology and
medical computing. Lead contributor to over 40 educational videos, three winning

Qualified from Trinity College Dublin, 1979. General Cardiology training Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. Subspeciality training in management of cardiac arrhythmias including interventional electrophysiology, St George’s Hospital London.
Fellowship in Interventional Electrophysiology Massachussetts General Hospital, Boston.
Teaching faculty Harvard Medical School. Previously Head of Electrophysiology, Kings College Hospital.
Consultant Cardiologist providing a regional service for Sussex based at RSCH since 1998, specialising in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
Special areas of interest,: radiofrequency ablation of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, complex device therapy for cardiac arrhythmias including ICDs and biventricular pacing.
