Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Tutor in Cardiothoracic Surgery, The Royal College
of Surgeons of England.Trained in London and The West Midlands, and appointed
as Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Brighton in 2001. Trained in all aspects
of Cardiothoracic Surgery, with a current practice comprising all forms of adult
cardiac surgery. Specialist interests include surgery for atrial fibrillation
(including minimally invasive), and end-organ effects of cardiopulmonary bypass. Member
of The Executive Committee of The Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great
Britain & Ireland (SCTSGBI). Council Member of The Royal Society of Medicine
(Cardiothoracic Section). Council Member of The College of Clinical Perfusion

Consultant
Anaesthetist (Special Interest in Intensive Care) since 1999. Graduate of Royal
Free Hospital School of Medicine. Anaesthesia & Intensive Care training
in Brighton, Birmingham, Paris and London. Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. European
Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine. Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography
(Testamur, National Board of Echocardiography). Clinical interests include
oesophageal Doppler haemodynamic monitoring, coagulation and thromboelastography,
neurological complications after cardiac surgery. Member of the UK and European
associations of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists. Specialty Tutor for Anaesthesia,
Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Dr Nevil Hutchinson
Consultant
Anaesthetist
Born went to school in Swansea before studying Medical Sciences
and Philosophy at Cambridge University. Took the MB and BChir at Cambridge University
after clinical studies at Kings College Hospital. Has worked and studied
in New Zealand and Australia before returning to the UK to complete his training
in Brighton and London. Trained in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care
at Kings College Hospital, Guys Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital
and the Heart Hospital (University College Hospital) before taking up a Consultant
post in Brighton in 2004. Special interests: Haemostasis management and blood
transfusion (including thromboelastometery and platelet aggregometry); Perioperative

Mr Andrew S Cohen FRCS CTh
Cardiothoracic Surgeon
I trained in an old style apprenticeship with some of the founding fathers of British cardiac surgery such as Sir Prof Magdi Yacoub and Messrs John Wright and Christopher R Lincoln
My special interest is in aortic valve surgery and I undertook a year during my training with Professors Yacoub and Pepper
I was appointed as Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in 2001 at The Royal Hospital of St Bartholomew and The London Chest Hospital
In 2003 I moved as a Consultant to The Sussex Cardiac Centre
I am Chairman of The Sussex Heart Charity |

Mr Michael E Lewis, BSc. (Hons) MB ChB MD FRCS(C-Th)
Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon Trained in Oxford and The West Midlands, and appointed as Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Brighton in 2005.
Trained in all aspects of Cardiothoracic Surgery, with a current practice comprising all forms of adult cardiac surgery. Local lead for Grown up Congenital Heart disease surgery.
Specialist interests include surgery for atrial fibrillation and evolving technology aortic valve surgery. |

Clinical Lead – Department of Cardiac Surgery
Qualified: St Bartholomew’s Hospital 1986. I undertook my post-graduate cardiac surgical training in London at the Brompton, St Mary’s, Harefield, St Thomas’ and King’s Hospitals. I was appointed as a Consultant in 1998 in Brighton. I perform all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with specialist interests in beating heart surgery, mitral valve repair, minimal access cardiac surgery and percutaneous aortic & mitral valve procedures. I live in Hove with my wife and two daughters. I enjoy golf in my free time. |
